  • You could always create a category called "PMs" so that they all go in one location.
  • I was exactly thinking of that garvin ;)

@MySchizoBuddy: I saved them in jpg format and I hate cleartype :P Makes your fonts look blurry :)

  • Cleartype does take a bit of getting used to but it is nicer.
  • Careful Wanderer, we don't want you to bite that tongue off! I usually turn off cleartype for screenshots, because it looks like mud on a CRT.

ClearType's like antialiasing in games. Looks crappy and blurry at low res, but as the resolution increases looks better and is needed less :D

Personally I can't live without it, and if you use the ClearType Tuner PowerToy you can make it look good on even a CRT. I've used 1600×1200 on my CRT for the last 8 years (the poor thing's getting a bit dim now :( ) and ClearType as soon as it was available, and it looks lovely :)

    And screenshots... PNG surely?
  • excited to see the end result of this plugin!
  • Hey guys,

Please download a test release and tell me what you think. It will only display the Inbox and Sent Mail but I want to know if this is the way to go. Also, maybe you can provide some screens with more data, as my testing skills suck :P

  • hi jazzman. it's really great, i love it.

    some suggestions:

    1. the inbox is showing [ deleted ] threads at the moment, i am guessing it should not do that.

    2. clicking on a link to a whisper within a thread does not make the page 'jump' down to that whisper, it just goes to the first post in the thread.

    3. it is only showing me whispers within discussions, not 'new discussion' whispers, which is probably the most important kind for my users.
(3a. would it be possible to show 'discussion' whispers as a thread, like they are in the forum index? kinda like an email conversation in gmail)

    4. i would really like it if there was a 'send PM' button on the inbox. i don't think it's obvious how to actually send a message.

    5. maybe it would be cool to way to hide the 'whisper your comments to' box if you wanted to, so the whole inbox/outbox system was contained in that tab.

    great work so far...
  • also... could you have an option to hide discusson whispers in the main forum index?

sorry for all the posts :)
  • Circuit: Earlier you mentioned a link/button click to whisper... so I threw this together, along with some useful searches: http://lussumo.com/addons/?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=221
  • wow, thanks wallphone, it looks superb. when it says 'click to install', what exactly do i have to click? i tried visiting settings.php?PostBackAction=InstallUserMessages but i just get a blank page. maybe i'm looking for the links in the wrong place?
  • jazzman: do you know when you are likely to have a new version ready? i have disabled the extension for now, as it is too confusing not to show private threads as well as in-thread whispers. but as soon as it does, i will upload the new version. do whisper me if you want any screen shots etc.
  • 'Click to install'? That must be from something else. (maybe Jazzman's new extension?) All you should have to do is the standard upload to the extensions dir, then check the box next to User Tasks. Then look at any profile other than your own, and the links should be in the panel.
  • duh, sorry, similar names for the extensions and i wasn't concentrating...
  • edited December 2006
when the extension is enabled and i click 'start a new discussion', the 'whisper your comments to' box has the word 'nothing' in it. when i disable it, it's blank, as it should be. is it just me? i have a lot of extensions installed so maybe something is conflicting.

edit: it would also be good to add a warning if there is no subject, or a default subject. if i send a whisper with a blank subject it just disappears with the message 'that discusson could not be found'.

but the extension in itself is great! and is allowing me to hard-code a 'PM' link into wordpress blog posts, which was exactly what i wanted to do! so thanks, wallphone.

Whoops. That nothing should not be there. I see I also forgot to urlencode the user name.

These are now fixed in add-ons.

The no subject thing is probably caused by something else... I wasn't able to reproduce it.
  • @ WallPhone: Would you please check it again? It gives me an error (unexpected { at line 48 in default.php) after activating it. I tried to find it, but couldn't. I think there is a ')' too much in the pre-fill function and a ?> is missing at the end?
  • edited December 2006
wallphone, is it possible to hack the code and pass a subject? e.g.

    &subject=Private%20Message

i will give it a go...

edit: i also get the parse error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '{' in /home/circuit/public_html/candr/messageboard/extensions/UserTasks/default.php on line 48

Got it done: just add another ')' to line 48 before the '{' I also added the '?>' at the end. Now I get another error when navigating to an account: Notice: Undefined variable: AccountUserID in /var/www/vhosts/web308/html/16/extensions/UserTasks/default.php on line 27
