500 Internal Server Error - Remote

edited December 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hi, I'm trying to install Vanilla on a remote webserver, but it just comes up with error 500. How can I fix it? I have deleted .htacsess, but I dont know how to enable mod rewrite. I have also changed the permissions. What is wrong? Thanks! BTW: The website is http://amold.awardspace.com/forum if that helps.

I had this error because of mod_rewrite, maybe you can fix it if you rename the .htaccess file in your vanilla root directory.

In such a case the server logs are very helpful.

what do I rename it to?
  • It doesn't matter, try f.e. _.htaccess

The simple reason is, that your webserver schould be unable to find the .htaccess file.
