Can't stop update checking

I'm on 1.0.3 and I recently got the "It's been n days since you checked for Vanilla updates" message. When I go ahead and click the link, I receive the message that I'm up-to-date, but the warning message on the front page is never going away. Thoughts?

    Make sure your config file has the correct permissions.
