New Extension: SmartyPants

And there it is: SmartyPants for Vanilla http://lussumo.com/addons/?PostBackAction=AddOn&Success=1&AddOnID=236 This formats comments using SmartyPants Typographer (http://www.michelf.com/projects/php-smartypants/) for correct qoutes and more. It has a hacked version of Typographer for working well with german, and breaks for all other languages. For english, just overwrite smartypants.php with the one from above link and set the SMART_ATTR for your needs.

    I shall try that out with AutoP which is why I was asking the question in the first place :) Considering it works fine with Markdown I don't see why the two shouldn't work hand in hand.

    Since it's so language dependant, might be nice to put a language config option in place?

    I'm afraid, SmartyPants has many hardcoded places for quotetion marks. Took me some search'n'replace for changing the quotes, to work in the right way for german. Changing doubleqoutes was easy, that has config-definitions, but not singlequotes. But how knows the HTML-codes will have no problems with that.
