Copy discussions and users to a new installation?

edited January 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
We have a large community that we've built in Vanilla and are working on a new site. We're looking to install the latest version of Vanilla in another directory and work on a new style direction while the current forum is still running.

Ideally, we'd like to take a copy of all the discussions and users we have to date (a few thousand) and copy them into the new installation so we can work on the stylesheet while seeing how it'll affect all the existing content.

What would be the best and easiest way for us to do this? Thanks guys.

  • All you need to do is dump a copy of the current database and import it into the database for the new installation. phpMyAdmin, Webmin, or the mysql shell commands are among the tools that can be used to do this.

And BTW why copy anything? If you are just working on style and upgrading minor revision, just keep the same database settings and use it. Slyling or even theming should not infere with database content.
  • Thanks guys. Will do.
