ADD-ON: Smart Notification and Newsletter Fix

edited January 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
I am part of the club that finds RSS/Atom feeds mainly broken (and unusable for private forums); notifications as well (both new members and Notify extension). It's becoming rather a show-stopper; am exploring other solutions than Vanilla ... most unhappily.

Here is an add-on idea that, alas, I can't code. It is kind-of a stopgap but I think I would value it even if (when?) the stuff above is fixed.

Version One:
Uses SQL query to aggregate linkable discussion titles to a Vanilla page by two selectable filters (new discussions; comments added to existing discussions). This page can be sent as a newsletter/email per role(s) using NewsMailer (which does still work for me). Further filtered by: within last day(s); week; month.

Version Two:
Specify regular aggregation based on pre-packaged criteria; provide an announcement to the main discussion page on the date specified for sending. Admin can click-link to the aggregated page, tweak (add optional text), send.

Version Three:
Automate sending of regularly scheduled newsletters alerting to new content.
I can think of a 101 'nice to have' tweaks to the above, but the idea isn't to replace feeds or to provide the entire content of posts ... just to get a content-meaningful linkable list to members of private forums without the need to create a highly complex, fragile extension. We've got enough of those ;-).

Meanwhile (or in parallel), if anyone wants to fix RSS/Atom and Notify, a grateful nation of Vanilla users awaits your beneficience.
