Old Forum, new problem

Hello all. I installed V 1.0 last summer, added a few extensions and all was well. I have recently had another look through the extensions and added a few more, including Tell a Friend and Buy a Drink. The Buy a Drink crashed everything so I took it out of the Extensions folder and deleted the line in the extensions file. All seemed to come good again EXCEPT that 1. The Tell a Friend extension doesn't show up anywhere (irrespective of the settings in the files) 2. Spookily, the extensions that are shown in Admin side are not ticked EVEN THOUGH THEY STILL WORK. When I tick them the tick remains UNTIL I look next time and they are all unticked once more. To be honest I'm not that bothered about the ticking issue but I would like to get the tell a friend working (and the Buy a Drink coming to think of it) Any ideas? Thanks

  • My guess is Vanilla is having trouble reading conf/extensions.php, yet it is still valid PHP so the extensions still are included. Try renaming the file to something else, then re-enable the extensions you used. I am the author of the buy a drink, so will be glad to help with that one also. (any error messages?)
  • Thanks for the tip. Let me get back to you.
  • BTW what permission setting should I have on conf/extensions.php? Coming to think of it I downloaded it to a Mac to do the edit and it opened in Word:mac Would that have caused the prob? Should I upgrade to the latest version or is V 1.0 still OK to run all extensions? Thanks
  • I'd suggest you upgrade. V1 will run stuff but it has a couple of known security holes which are worth avoiding :) There will probably also be more and more extensions which stop working with V1 unless you edit them slightly.

I dont know what encoding word:mac uses but it aught to be alright. Try opening it in a basic text editor and see if it's left any funk characters anywhere. You want to be heading for permissions of 644 or 666 depending which user your Apache (or other) server runs as...
  • That's great! Thanks a bunch. I love this forum :-)
  • All well.
