Adding extra text fields to membership app.

I want to add 2 input text fields to the membership application form (first and last name). What is the proper way to do this? Searching through Vanilla's files, I found the library/People/People.Control.ApplyForm.php. But this doesn't seem to be the correct file. What file handles the text fields for the membership app.?
