I was actually thinking that rather than linking directly to extensions, the link should go to a new page of the wiki that describes the extension, names the author, version, and any related links on the community, and maybe even includes some installation instructions (if it's anything more than the standard drag/drop). I think that is a cool idea.. It's just a little more work for those adding extensions.
  • you da boss! I figure as topics start to expand (like mine did this morning) we'll just start sectioning them up to a point where eventually I can see each extension possibly getting it's own page. Like firefox extensions or something.
  • what lech said

    Yeah - that sounds awesome.

Why is "New & available translations" within the "Developping new extensions" section rather than "Customizing Vanilla" ? Other htan that I'm loving the documentation so far!!!
  • Rearranged it all slightly due to what patrix said. Think it makes more sense that way...hope you guys dont mind.

Someone check the changes i made and make sure it makes sense... http://www.lussumo.com/docs/doku.php?id=vanilla:translations http://www.lussumo.com/docs/doku.php?id=vanilla:development:languages
  • /me is working on the Global Application Settings Form documentation. I'm splitting it down into subheadings so if anyone wants to do the ones that arent listed yet thats cool but if you can avoid editing the existing ones for the time being i'll let you know when i'm done.
  • Suggestions:

    Direct Link

Put a direct link to the Wiki in the next release of Vanilla, so people 'find' the documentation.

    Topics

If it makes sense add contextual links to functions (also in the normal user interface): like (?) on the account page links directly to relating pages in the wiki.

    Counter

For a commercial project we build such links into the documentations and tracked incoming links (and made some statistics), so we could see were people had problems or our software sucked. Great opportunity for some feedback and error tracking. Great tool for further development.

  • Direct link right down there , bottom right
  • @subterrane: I just noticed right now ... stupid me ... but on my screen the footer colours are very similar. I guess I need some more IQ and glasses. Thanks! ;-)

  • you have to admit the space next to the 2 logos is just *begging* to be filled with a new app!

it is! see http://lussumo.com/community/comments.php?DiscussionID=542&page=1 admittedly we'd have to help write it..but if it's good enough, it could be added to the lussumo family of awesomeness.
  • Hi everyone, I checked the Community for a french translation and didn't found one 2 days ago. By the time I asked for being a member, I found it was already done and reviewed and that the right place to find this information was on the Wiki, so that point is OK. ;-) What about a translation of the documentation? At least the pages that can concern the user. There are features that are common to many forums, still useful to explain them to newbies on the Net in their native language, but confirmed surfers should do without. And there are features like whispering that should be explained to every new member in their native language. I've begun to translate http://lussumo.com/docs/doku.php?id=vanilla:users in French (till the #1 paragraph of 'whispering'), in order to estimate the time it could take me, I should be done with that page by the end of the week. But first, are you interested in such a translation? If yes, there are questions like: should it be online on the same Wiki, on lussumo.com but separate Wiki, elsewhere, ...

I am very interested, yes. If people are interested in managing their own language's documentation wiki, I will set up: lussumo.com/docs/fr/ or whatever other language code that you might want to use. Should I?
  • It seems OK to me for the URL. Don't be in a hurry to set it up though, I won't be fast!
  • Just fiddle with the CSS, there are a lot of links and such in the "vanilla" Vanilla (cough) style that do not have enough contrast with the background.
