Email Notification - When will this be ready?

edited February 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
So - not to apply the pressure, but I'm really needing this extension for my install. I'd hate to leave Vanilla based solely on this issue, but its becoming clearer and clearer that its absolutely necessary for my clients.

Here are the discussions (going back to January 1st) that have been talking about this:
- Enhancements to Notify
- Smart Notification
- Notify .2 problem
- Notify Help

Has anyone figured out exactly what is causing the conflict?

  • Unfortunately, I did need to abandon Vanilla for two projects; not sure if I can go back to those later or not. I'm so aware that neither Mark nor any extension developers 'owe' me anything (to say the very least)! The community support for Vanilla is spectacular. It's just a shame that this and (far worse) RSS with HTTP authentication are so badly broken.

I suspect this speaks more than anything else to a lack of developers with the needed expertise. There are lots of gotchas with RSS, especially. It's nasty plumbing work. But the benefits to Vanilla's long-term success far exceed, imho, the coolness of the more sexy extensions.

Lack of notifications is probably the biggest flaw to using Vanilla, for me anyway. Whispers are great but I think a lot will go unseen for occasional visitors.

@ russlipton - what's wrong with the HTTP authentication?
  • E-mail and/or working RSS with HTTP auth is desperately needed! Our board survives without it but it is sorely missed.
