I installed vanilla and then installed the extension NewApplicantsCountXHR I put it in the extensions folder and then logged in as administrator and enabled it on the panel. This is when the trouble began. When I got to the my forum, it is not there. If I delete the contents of default.php and install that on my website, then I get my forum back. If I go to extensions, it says "Some problems were encountered An error occurred while attempting to read the extension definition from NewApplicantsCountXHR"

    I'm not totally clear on what happened, but as I understand if, you enabled the extension, it didn't work, and then you deleted the contents of the NewApplicantsCountXHR default.php file. If that roughly is what happened you should check /conf/extensions.php see if there is a line with NewApplicantsCountXHR in it. Delete that line, and delete the NewApplicantsCountXHR directory in /extensions/
