Vanilla, I need help finding some extensions

I'm using the latest Vanilla, and although I like it for it's simplicity, in it's basic form, it's a little too basic and I'm hoping there are some modifications out there that could help me mold it in to what I need. I'm use to using PhPBB which in a way is overkill. The basic additions to Vanilla I need are: - Formatting Bar to allow for BBcode style functions - Auto conversion of Enter (Carriage Returns) to <br> or <p> - A stable attachment mod that works for 10mb+ files - An Image attachment ability that will upload the image AND put in the image tags and display it in the post. - Send email to a member to let them know there's been an update to their post. That's it .. not really that much ... but I've tried a few plugins and haven't been able to find this combination. Let me know if you have found any of this available today. If not, i might have to try some other forum apps.

  • A quick 2 minute search of the add-ons yielded this: BBCode Insert Bar http://lussumo.com/addons/?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=32 AutoP http://lussumo.com/addons/?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=235 Attachments http://lussumo.com/addons/?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=153 Multi file upload http://lussumo.com/addons/?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=239 Inline Images http://lussumo.com/addons/?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=154 Notify http://lussumo.com/addons/?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=48
  • That addons site has a damn intelligent search engine huh? People can write plain english text into a forum post an within an hour it pops up with every extension they require...!
  • I was hoping for some more experienced users to provide results vs just doing searches. BBCodeInsertBar does NOT create a bar to use. I've tested it on 3 seperate installs. Attachment mods all seem to bork above a couple mbs .. i was hoping for something more stable. etc etc etc I have gone through dozens of mods and no luck with a lot of them. ---------- Anyone with some experience and not just glorified search skills? And pardon me for the attitude, but I'm only responding to those who were so quick to slam me ...
  • spinaldex, in my opinion, none of the suggested extensions above work flawlessly, they are all buggy and I wouldn't use them.

I installed HTML Formatter and Quicktags to format text, they work very well together.

As for your other requirements, I'm afraid ain't nuffin' I can suggest that works without grief.

  • This is what I got from your post:
I like Vanilla, but its has no functionality. I need extensions to do the following... "Let me know if you have found any of this available today."
    That doesn't exactly spell out:
Hey I really like vanilla but I need it to do a few more things other than just the basics. I need to be able to... I have searched the add-ons page and was looking for feedback on these extensions (your opinions, bugs, etc.).
spinaldex said:Anyone with some experience and not just glorified search skills?

Them there are fightin' words. Maybe next time you should be a little more specific, instead of "Let me know if you have found any of this available today. If not, I might have to try some other forum apps."
  • I think someone under-dosed on their happy pills today!
I also think the questions asked by spinaldex were fair and well worded.

Knowing what functionality you want is easy, knowing what local vocabulary is used to describe it is not so easy.

  • BBCodeInsertBar does NOT create a bar to use. I've tested it on 3 seperate installs.
Why not swing by and ask for some help if it doesn't work for you? I'm using the BB insert bar, and it's working just fine for me. To get the actual formatting working I have the BBCode parser together with AutoP. I'm sure that if you'd posted about your troubles you could have gotten some help.

As for email notification, it seems the Notify extension doesn't work reliably since Vanilla 1.0.3 (or so I think). Which might matter for your choice of forum package.
  • BBCodeInsertBar isn't flawless no, but it works fine for me on a couple of installs (none of my users use IE and besides, the basic formatting works in IE).
