Automatic log out

edited March 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hello, one of the users in the forum which I administrate has told me he often experiences automatic log outs when writing long posts. I am using Vanilla 1.0.3 . Any idea what this is caused by? It has never happened to me, though. Thanks for your ideas.

Comments

  • Is he using 'remember me'?
  • No, he isn't.
  • Any reason why not? He cant really expect to be kept logged in for long periods of time otherwise...
  • If that particular user doesn't want to have Vanilla remember him, and its a public forum, you can work around this by using the Add Comments extension. Then when his session happened to end, he will be given a comment form with his post still there and a message to enter his username and password.

If its not a public forum... well, that is an extension that I guess will have to be written.
  • Minisweeper: He says he administers another forum as well, so he can't use 'remember me'. I don't really understand why he thinks that is a problem... Do you think it would solve the auto-logouts? I mean, nothing is supposed to happen to he cookies during one session, is it? WallPhone: Thanks, I'll try it:-)
  • Well if his session expired his cookies would stay and therefore when he posted it would revalidate his session and let him post. Administering or even using another forum shouldnt have any effect whatsoever on it assuming yours and his cookies are set up properly.
