Extension FAQs to prevent repeat questions and retain solutions

Based on this reply by Schiz (but could have been anyone) I was wondering WHY do we see so
many repeat questions on these Vanilla support forums?
In addition to lazy n00b's, I can come up with three reasons:
#1 - non-grouped nature/approach to discussions in Vanilla
#2 - somewhat silly search (in a separate tab, either search topics OR comments, not both)
#3 - lack of a solid Extension FAQ mechanism/methodology
Solutions?
In the past I've suggested/requested a related posts / similar discussions # 1 add-on
Easy to explain, familiar to users of self-support systems, very useful even on non-support forums...
Implementation could range from pre-post warning for new members to actual plugins/overviews
that facilitate automatic clustering of related posts based on comments, links & content, a Vanilla
Backrub algorithm if you will.
FAQ for Extensions
In addition, would it make sense to create a FAQ section on the Wiki to capture oft-asked problems
and related solutions for add-ons? Perhaps not even in a Wiki but in the add-on discussion itself
(special sticky-like status?)
FAQ identification
We may cover 80% using the 'thank-you' extension to nominate specific answers as FAQable material
(I'm in a 'punny' mood today) and tag the comments/threads as such.
