ADD-ON IDEA: Floating "Discussion Topic" Bar

TomTesterTomTester New
edited March 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
On longer discussions I often catch myself repeatedly checking the window title bar
or even scroll back to the top to recall the discussion topic, especially when I have
several tabs open, or I'm interrupted while browsing.

Hence weird idea of the day:

FLOATING TOPIC TITLE BAR add-on:
Simple floating bar that appears topic title of current discussion that 'sticks' to the
top of the page when actively scrolling up/down?

Possible implementations:
A floating 'menu' based on 'floating menu' code or jQuery code
A fixed position floating DIV that appears when the topic title leaves the field of view
A fixed position floating DIV that appears ONLY while scrolling

  • Go on then Tom, jQuery's there ready and waiting to be taken advantage of :)
  • I'm almost done. Without jQuery, instead abused the floating search box code. Crude beta available.

It actually works pretty well, but now I want to add some user-selectable options (font size, background
color, floating bar top or bottom position, show username, posting date, etc.)

I find a bottom position works actually better than I'd anticipated. I'll email you a copy.
