Manual smileys don't work with IE

Many of our members using IE are seeing lots of problems. First of all, smileys don't work. I mean the manual :) smileys. On IE, they appear to be a broken image. Any ideas why?

    Vanilla doesn't support smilies by default, so you must have an extension installed - which one?

    Interesting. Thanks for the reply. I had someone else set this up and he found that some extensions conflicted with others. Here's the list of what we *are* using: Add Comments Google Adsense AjaxQutoe Applicant Email Verification Attachments Better BB Code Captcha Comment Author Discussion View Count Discussion Filter Extended Text Formatter Guest Sign Message Inline Images Legends Notify Page Mgmt poll Preview post private account rss2 Transmogrifier user filter user tasks Who's Online Window Links Is what I want, Vanillacons 1.1?
