Member Approval

edited March 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
I am having a harder time approving members in the new 1.1.x vanilla software.
used to be I would be alerted that there are new members awaiting approval i would review them, and one by one in the detailed view i could approve them by clicking 'approve membership' (or something like that) under the Account Options menu on the left. now all that is there is: Change personal information.

Why was this very useful functionality changed to the Settings/Membership Applicants /vanilla/settings.php?PostBackAction=Applicants ?

  • Because in the new way you get all the information you need (I think?) and you can approve more than one person at once. I'd say it was a huge step in the right direction personally... With this place getting upto 20 new members a day it used to take me quite some time to manually go through the list checking their applicant discovery details and approving/declining them. Now i do it at a glance and it's all over in under a minute... What is it you dislike about the new functionality?
  • it doesnt display all the information, like the first and last names or last known IP. < which i and others find useful. also why totally remove old functionality? when a new user applies for membership, they show up in a lot of places that link you to the detailed view/user page (for example the who's online extension).
  • I've a feeling there was some sort of security reason for removing the old applicant links in the panel when viewing users profiles - if not then sure i'm all for them going back in there. Do you think it would help to add the other user details to the new applicant listing also?
  • yes i think it would help a lot, i mean you can click and get it, but thats an extra step (and takes you to where you used to approve applicants) and several more clicks when dealing with multiples (the whole idea of batch was to do it all at once and on one page, right?)
  • if it was security flaw, then i think its step in the right direction but it was confusing and can probably be fixed within its old style. i like the new style, just a confusing transition without much explanation or help to users /admin who do not necessarily update the forum software.
  • Any comments, Mark?
