Coincedence?

edited March 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Did anyone else have a tremendous jump in bandwidth usage after the 1.1 update? I didn't notice anything until I started getting messages about a week later that my bandwidth was approaching 80% of its limit. It exceeded it and then we increased it. But within hours the added bandwidth was used. We increased it again but whatever value it was increased to, the bots sucked up. And it was two bots - the Googlebot and InktomiSlurp. We'ae had to exclude everything from these bots.

  • How could it be Vanilla related?

Do you have a lot of pictures at the website? My bandwidth exploded after Google indexed them. I switched to unlimited bandwidth and excluded them from being indexed.
  • In my support role, one of the first things we ask our customers when they call about a problem is "when did this start and what did you change at that time?" Anything is possible in the wonderful world of computers. I try not to rule out anything but start at the obvious. I meant no offense to Vanilla and its support.

I'm still thinking about what else I did at that time.

I can't think of anything that's changed in Vanilla which would cause a bandwidth increase. Nothing like that has happened here, that's for sure.
  • I'm getting a heap more bots... Google, spam and others, nothing to do with any Vanilla update of course so yes, I think it is a coincidence.
And by the way, thanks to Minisweeper's new and improved Guest Post add-on, the spam bots are wasting their time. pic
