A couple hours ago our forum went down as I was trying to post a reply. Now, out of nowhere, it forwards to a setup page for Vanilla 1.0.3:

Anyone have any idea what may have happened. We're going crazy trying to figure it out.

  • We've taken the setup page down so people can't edit our installation. But you can still see where the domain forwards. Have you ever seen anything like this happen before?
  • The problem must be with /conf/settings.php.

Check that everything is ok: that it is there, with the following setting "$Configuration['SETUP_COMPLETE'] = '1'; " and that php has the permissions the read it.
  • Thanks dino. We were able to fix it by adjusting the settings, trashing the captcha extension, and cleaning up the extensions.php. Problem solved.
  • oops, what is wrong with captcha extension?
(do you have any problems with bots?)
  • we need Akismet (http://akismet.com/) extension no more captchas
  • Once we restored an old backup of our settings file, we got an error page saying there was an issue with Captcha. Nothing other than deleting the captcha folder and removing it from the extensions file would work.

We've never had a problem with captcha before. Being that we still approve applications manually, we can live without the extension for a while.
