Members "Can sign in" - what does this mean?

Under Settings>Roles and Permissions>Members If I UN check the box "Can Sign In" does this mean that the new member won't be able to sign in? OR does it mean that they have to be verified when they join? How to I set it so that new members must be verified to join the forum? Thanks

    It means they cant sign in. It's designed for banning users. You can use the applicant settings to make the sign up role to applicant (without sign in permission) then make their approved status member. If that makes sense.
