Bug fixes and improvements are always welcomed.

Just needed u guys opinion on the extension I'm working on.
screenshots below

It looks like the one from Drupal?
Bingo. Block management in drupal is pretty kickass. So i decided to do the way they do it. Plus it also takes a lot from Page management extension.

This is what Stuff Displayer is doing?
that is correct. this one is just better :)

When will i release it?
Like every opensource work. I'll release it when its done :P

So this is for making my forum an Ad whore?
yup.

That's a good choice to store the data, in this case. Short list, no complex relation between the data, no big risk two people edit the file at the same time. For picking the pages which the nugget have to appear, why not two text area? One with the list of pages available and one for the pages selected. You selected the pages in the first text area and add them to second page.
  • Yeah looks good to me. Only thing I would suggest is the option to include files as opposed to just putting the stuff into a text box (I realise you could put a simple php include in the text box but some people dont know how) - there have been issues with pagemanager etc where it has become better and more manageable to make whatever you want into a file then just use pagemanager to include it. I hope that makes sense. I'm starting to lose it.

@ Mini u mean instead of entering your google ad script for example in a textarea, but have an option to include a file that already has that code in it. The people will just add complete html files to it, and u'll end up with whole html documents in ur sidebar
@ Dinoboff so 2 textareas seperated by a "Add" and "Remove" arrow. ctrl select the pages from the available pages and click the add arrow, which will add them to the selected pages. sounds good. To reomve u do the opposite.
this way the user doesn't have to remember the pages that are available, since the number of pages are large (using Page manager) having checkboxes will be quite long. something like this u mean

  • Yeah spot on :)

I agree, it looks freaking awesome compared to Stuff Displayer. Keep up the good work man :)
  • schizo: makes more sense to use &<lt;select> than textarea for that. with ajax calls to move pages back and forth

i'll just create two lists and drag and drop from one to another. will be so much easier to do.
    one more thing.
Since people are most likely to add all pages. So i should start will all pages and drag and drop the ones u don't want.
  • Yeah I think so, or have 'select all, select none' things.

  • what is "weight" for?
  • edited March 2007
    priority
So if u have 3 header nuggets, and want them to be displayed in a particular order. u can use -10,0 and 10 as weights
weight can have a very imp affect on the Body Nugget. different weight can have the Body Nugget display above comments. below comments or inbetween comments and add comments.
its all about flexibility so u can place it in which ever order u want.
  • should it be to display one at a time? and have weight = 'parts' like 1 part google, 2 parts some other ad
then 3 out of 9 would be google an 6 out of nine be some other ads.
  • u can have 1 google ad and 2 other ads as one nugget or as 3 different nuggets, and use weight to order them.

    Uploaded 0.5 Beta
    Completely working :)

You guys have any requests or improvements i can add. Let me know, while I'm still in the mood for it :)
  • i understood how it works currently, but i was suggesting that somepeople that want to have many things displayed wont want them ALL at the same time.
  • edited March 2007
thats the idea. u have a choice of what u want to display, to whom and where and which pages at which order. Its extremely customization
  • but can it rotate through the different ads displayed on a single page?
  • Ohhh ur asking about rotating.
No it doesn't do that YET

There are already Ad Rotating codes, u can use them as a Nugget and the code will rotate the ads for you
they are pretty simple. randomly generate some number on page load. based on the result, either output the Google Ad or Yahoo Ad. Once i release the Final Version I will include lot of examples of how u can use this extension, i'll make one for ad rotating thingy.
  • well i wont be using this feature personally, but i figure it would be a feature that would be use fairly frequently be others.
  • This is How it looks right now.
So test it and try to break it so i can fix it on time
