Let me first say that the approach I took was to build a structure above Categories instead of below as in sub-Categories. The building of Groups in which to place Categories seemed to work pretty well. I took the DiscussionTags design and merged it with the DiscussionOverview design and came up with a pretty good solution. I can't take the credit but rather applaud those two add-on authors for having solid code that could be used outside of those extensions.
I've only been testing locally, but will add it to my live forum for you to see before I actually upload it. I'll try to do this by tomorrow.
If you visit my forum, you'll be able to see the add-on working. There is a Categories Group section in the Sidepanel for getting to the Group quickly. When you click on the Categories tab, you'll see the Categories as they have been grouped.
Looks awesome!
I would only suggest a bit of padding between the category group text and the categories listed above it--help them stand out from and divide the list better.
If anyone would like to test this before I upload it, please whisper me your email address and I'll send it to you. I'd like to get a few comments before actually relaeasing it.
@angelic_venus: I like your design, very simple. I downloaded it and it is simple to use. I think I will still continue to complete my new CategoryGroups add-on because it looks at this from a different perspective. Then the community can have 2 different ways to work with this need.

Let me know what you think.
It is not 100% there, but it is a start.
