Sign In Problem Vanilla 1.1.2 - IE bug?

edited 2007 25 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
I have a dot-dot domain defined in settings.php $Configuration['COOKIE_DOMAIN'] = 'szdsz_st.extra.hu'; Even if I change it to '.szdsz_st.extra.hu' or '' I'm still unable to login, which affects only IE6/IE7, in Firefox and Opera it works. I tried to delete cookies, restart browser, but nothing helps :-(( I just reinstalled Vanilla, and have not activated any language or theme files yet, nor extensions, it's a pure Vanilla basic setup, but still not able to login, and only under MSIE .. :-((

    or try blank...
  • I was having a RASH of login problems and finally fixed them. My website is located at http://www.fngeeks.net/vanilla/, so my FQDN is 'www.fngeeks.net' and the path for Vanilla is (surprisingly) '/vanilla/' so I changed my settings to: $Configuration['COOKIE_DOMAIN'] = 'www.fngeeks.net'; $Configuration['COOKIE_PATH'] = '/vanilla/'; And now our cookies work with all browsers and it seems to have solved our problems.
  • well, nothing helps....

    The forum is at http://szdsz_st.extra.hu/forum/
the default coopkie domain after install was: "szdsz_st.extra.hu"
    I also tried ".extra.hu", "extra.hu", and blank
also played a bit with cookie path "/forum/" and "/"

I deleted the cookies in IE after every change, restarted the browser, also tried to lower security settings, but no change, still unabele to login, while my visit count increases after every try. (what I can see in Firefox, where I have no login problems but some js errors when enabling/disabling extensions, or looking for updates - but, as extensions status is changed after a refresh, I can live with that :-) )

I thouhgt login problem might be caused by server configuration, but it's very strange that only IE is affected..
You can look at the configuration at http://szdsz_st.extra.hu/phpinfo.php
For me, it's chinese, I see one big difference compared to my appserv install on my local machine (where I didn't change anything): this server have a long list of disable_functions set.. :-o
  • I have been having intermittent log in problems across browsers reported by a variety of users. I haven't found the underlying cause because being intermittent its tricky to reproduce. My forum was set up with the URL as forum.mydomain.com My cookie domain as .mydomain.com What seems to happen is the login is successful (as is no error message) I get redirected to the discussions page but I'm not logged in or at least it looks that way. one user reported that if they selected from the category drop down that then suddenly everything seem refresh and show a logged in users perspective.
  • Yeah I am now getting the exact same problems all of the time. Its causing me a huge headache as it works fine on an external server but running it locally I can't login. It appears to login ok when i submit on the sign in page and I get directed but according to the sessions its getting wiped as soon as I see the discussions. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening? Thanks
  • Very sorry please ignore the above comment. Should have read the first discussion I know.
