Start a discussion using a 3rd party application (?)

edited May 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Is there a way to start a discussion using a 3rd party application? Something like Email2Vanilla - send an email to a specific address and it would start a discussion automatically? Cronjobs could be used to achieve this, I think. Or maybe using XML-RPC?

  • are your talking like a windows application, or does it have to be an email?

It would be really nice if we could start new discussions using such software as BlogJet or Zoundry. But if it was email-based, that would be nice too.

The case is: I'd like to forward some emails sent to my company and automatically publish their content in the forum. How I would see that working: you forward an email to a specific email address and the content would be published in one previously set category with the email topic as the discussion topic. You would also have to configure which email addresses are allowed to start discussions. Emails from other would be automatically deleted.
  • I'd suggest you check out the janine extension for some ideas regarding this..
