Problem with News Mailer

edited July 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
A friend has recently had a problem with their server (hosting issue) and had to reinstate Vanilla. I just tried to use Newsmailer to mail people to let them know the forum is back up. Instead I got this error: A fatal, non-recoverable error has occurred Technical information (for support personel): Error Message Unable to send email. The SMTP server reported the following error: Affected Elements Email.ServerParse(); The error occurred on or near: 550 : Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table The version of Vanilla is 1.0.3 (yes I know it needs updating). Could someone please suggest how to fix this? Thanks.

  • Are you using SMTP or the standard sendmail to send emails from your forum? Do you know if any of the users got the e-mail?
  • I used it from the forum, standard send mail. No users got the notification. This has worked fine in the past. Does anyone have any ideas how to address this? Thanks.
  • I would guess it's a problem caused by one of the user's email addresses. How many users do you have? If you do something e.g. request a password does the email come through or do you get the same error?
  • Would be great if there were some updates for this... I have 15,000+ members in my Vanilla community for my site and it doesn't quite work the way I want it to for that many members. having something more manageable, with something maybe like a cronjob to manage the mass amount of users would be nice.
