Hey guys, how do I remove the version number of vanilla from the side panel? I want to keep the copyright intact but get rid of version number for safety reasons. Thanks :D

  • I wouldn't bother, that level of security is verging on paranoia!

  • XD yeah? I know IPB does it, so when a a bug is found those users with unpatched board can't be compromised.
  • OK then, whatever XD means and whoever IPB is but don't forget to take your medication as well.

definitely not paranoid, rayk. fortunately, it's pretty simple to do: open up definitions.php (located at /Vanilla/languages/English/definitons.php or something similar). scoll down to the very bottom. there you'll see the PaneFooter defintion, and you can modify that to get rid of the little blurb that outputs the version number. pretty sure Mark is okay with this, as long as you keep the main message intact. the line above the definition asks that you not alter it, but i seem to recall him saying that stuff like this was okay, but somebody please correct me if i'm wrong. hope that helps! also...XD is an emoticon, IPB is InvisionPowerBoard.
  • wanderer is being a tit again.
  • Haha. Excellent.
  • So, what's InvisionPowerBoard and I've never seen XD before.
If that makes me a tit I hope I'm a big one :-)

Hahah thanks guys! Definitely keeping vanilla bit in, though I might change it to powered by Vanilla. @Wanderer : InvisionPowerBoard is another term for bloatware ;)
  • I'm also a proponent of losing the Vanilla version number from the "powered by" tag line. Just because it's a *very* simple way of making a script kiddy wonder off and mess around with someone else's site instead of yours. It may not be bullet proof, but every little helps.
