  • The primary maintenance you have to do is to upgrade your Vanilla installation with new versions as they come out. And with this, you could choose not to upgrade. The other things that would need maintenance or upgrade are the add-ons which add on functionality to Vanilla. These add-on scripts are updated by their authors. This being said, there is update functionality built into Vanilla to allow you to check for Vanilla updates and add-on updates. Then you will know what should be updated.

Does this help with your question?
  • Some users also choose to backup their database - this functionality isnt included in vanilla (is there an addon for it?) - but it's also not 'required'. Obviously it's up to you just like backing up the rest of your server. Your hosts should be able to help you out with all that anyway if you ask nicely :)
  • hi jimw, yes, it does. I just checked for updates a few days ago...thanks for your reply... @minisweeper i see, i know how to back up databases...that wont be a problem...thanks again!
  • @minisweeper: There is the zip2mail add-on to do backups/archives. The email part has been eliminated and replaced with the file save-as dialogue. It does an sql dump of the Vanilla database. It does an archive of the extensions directory and the themes folder. What I really need to add is an option for the conf/settings files.
  • Cool. Sounds like that's all you need then tabs :)
  • thanks for the replies guys!
