How to move / migrate Vanilla to a new server

edited July 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hi,

Im currently in the process of moving one of my client's Vanilla forum from one hosting company to my own. I am familiar with this process when migrating a Wordpress blog. I just want to make sure I have a seamless as possible transition from the old server to the new one, without any hickups.

The only issue that I can think of in advance is that the website is on the current server as www.websitename.net and once it is migrated to my server, it needs to be under www.websitename.com. I own both versions of the name. I just want to make sure that if there is anything I need to change in any of the .php files when migrating, that it is done correctly.

Can some helpful person post a mini step by step on how to migrate Vanilla from one server to another and how to change the domain name inside the .php file (if it even needs to be changed), the right way. all comments are appreciated.

I am using Vanilla 1.1.2

  • you'll find everything you need to change in conf/settings.php and conf/database.php. it's self-explanatory.
change the paths, the urls, the cookie domain and the database server info.
  • thanks ithcy,

i wasnt really sure if that was the only thing I had to do.

PS... Completely off topic but if any of you guys want to laugh your pants off... go see Superbad. I got early preview tickets... its the funniest movie of the year.... of the decade!
