turn off membership approval?

How do you turn off the membership approval? I know it's something simple and I must be overlooking it. Sorry for the stupid question. I did a search but didn't find anything that answered my question.

    What the hell? I wrote an entire sentence there with full instructions and it's just ignored half of it. That's not the first time that's happened recently... how wierd.
