Panel panel panel

Hi,

I am fairly new to Vanilla, and have just been getting to grips with it's codebase and (more specifically) extension framework.

One thing that has occurred to me in putting together my 'flavour' of extended Vanilla, is the amount of extensions that supply their own link in the panel (and, moreover, their own entire panel section). For me, it is getting a bit much, the style of my site leaves each panel being quite large, so I have set about making extensions place their links into just a few panel sections and (this is where my question comes) removing some extensions from the panel entirely, and placing them within the content.

The extensions that I want to move into the content's footer, are the FeedPublisher (I want it to just be a feed icon in the footer) and CategoryJumper (to be just a drop down in the footer) extensions, I have managed to remove them from the panel fine. But when I tried to find a delegate for placing content in the footer, there wasn't one. Then I tried to search for other extensions that do the same, and couldn't find any, I came across various extensions that alter the template files on the fly to add content to the footer (and header), but none that alter the footer through the usual way. I just want to add a bit of content just above the footer, so that it appears in my content.

Am I completely missing something? Or is this just not achievable?

Adam.

  • You have to create a control that will contain that content--its a little more complicated than adding to the panel, which is why you don't see it often. An example of this is the banner at the top of these here Vanilla forums: http://lussumo.com/docs/doku.php?id=vanilla:administrators:troubleshooting&s=lussumobanner
  • Very interesting, thank you for the link. It doesn't seem too complex, I will see what I can come up with.
