Doing some research of sites, communities and CMS.

edited August 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
I am a little confused and have been lead around to several sites and several types of content. I am hoping someoen will be able to shed some light on a few sites. these sites: http://www.splendora.com/ http://www.theonion.com http://www.mtv.co.uk/ http://www.deadsexy.org/ are listed as being Drupal based CMS, but they also look like their using Vanilla. these sites: http://www.ncgolfers.com/ http://suicidegirls.com/ Look like Vanilla with Drupal. Drupal is a CMS from what I understand, and Vanilla is? a Forum? what I am looking to do is have a site that looks and feels like: http://www.splendora.com/ http://www.mtv.co.uk/ http://suicidegirls.com/ http://www.ncgolfers.com/ Community style site with the ability to have modules in the front page which are more picture based, eye candy. Like a magazine. I have been researching this for ....a year now? been playing with Joomla, but it doesn't really give me what I want. any ideas, suggestions or can you tell me what these sites really are? thanks.

  • Hello, these sites are not in fact using Vanilla, but the Forum module for Drupal. The Drupal Forum has a style quite similar to Vanilla, but with very limited functionality.

I have written an integration guide for Vanilla and Drupal so that they can share a user-base and sessions.

    Check http://lussumo.com/docs/doku.php?id=vanilla:integration:drupal for more info.

http://www.ncgolfers.com/ says he is using vanilla, but not drupal. what do you think? and thanks, I saw your post about the integration.....may have to check that out.
  • He just uses Vanilla embedded, and some links pointing to the Vanilla install from the Drupal theme... there is no integration between the two as far as I can tell, looks well done, though =), though I think he should try using friendly URLs

Ok, I own and am the the Developer of NC Golfers... I can first hand vouch that i am not using Drupal, infact i'm not using a CMS at all. I have Vanilla installed and I use Vanilla for Authentication and the forum. I currently do not have a link back to vanilla, I'm actually gonna put up a cool logo at the bottom of the footer that says powered by Vanilla.

I also use vanilla's Session object for different custom made programs i have made, such as the Handicap Tracker.

Darkman... U may be interested in this add-on, I'm going to add it to my site soon here
  • I've made some design changes, tell me what ya think, I haven't updated the forum yet, but the rest of the site.
  • I am getting a 404 on your new stylesheet: http://www.ncgolfers.com/stylesheets/suicide.css
