Email Exchanges do not work

edited September 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
My Message Board was working fine for months. Then my host switched servers. Now none of the email functions work: Admin does not get notified when new users apply and new applicants do not receive notification when they are approved. We get run-time error with message conserning the SMTP server cannot ... blah blah .. I spoke with my host and for weeks they have no solution. What is happening here? What exactly is the problem? Can we correct it on our end? Or is it the hosts problem?

  • Seems like the server you moved to doesnt have sendmail installed. You could try asking your host to set it up for you. Otherwise you could put some SMTP server details into the application settings screen.
  • Minisweeper! I remember you. The server surely has sendmail because my website has a form that sends the data collected to several persons via email. Though I must admit, that function was not working for awhile and the host did get it corrected. In the settings application screen, there are 3 boxes: SMTP host, SMTP user, SMTP password. What should be placed there?
  • the SMTP host is something to ask your ISP. the SMTP user and password might be the same as the ftp username and password that you use to upload files to your site, or if you got a primary email account with your web hosting package, it might be that email address and password. this is something your ISP would know as well.
  • Yes ... I believe my ftp username and password is what should be there and for the first, I put localhost.
