Thickbox step by tep

I'm new at this stuff and I'm having problems getting thickbox to work. I must have installed it wrong. (the forum froze when I turn it on) What is the correct file step (which files to add first, second )I should do to make thickbox work. I have completely re-installed vanilla, so I'm working with a blank slate. (no extensions added at this time) Thanks
