Attachment path question

The attachments extension allow you to set directory names using userid and date
Do you guys really use the date as a folder.
I'm thinking all uploads should be per user and no date based directory should be created. There is an issue of browsing the folders from users point of view.
If the directory is 2007/User1/ then if the user wants to check 2006/User1/ he will have to go up one level which will expose the directories of other users.
However a directory structure like Userid/2007 will work.

How important is date based directory?

FCKeditor allows directories like User1/Image or User1/media so images and media are separated into folders. do you really want date based directories.

  • This is user configurable anyway so surely it's up to the admin what they find best? I agree with you that user should come first but it's easy enough for that to be changed..?
  • that is assuming the admin knows what he is doing :)
  • Ofcourse. But who's to say the admin even wants the users to be able to browse their files anyway?
