Systray widget

edited August 2005 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Does anyone have the ability to make one of these? I've never used a mac but i assume its close to a dashboard widget and would be pretty nifty.

  • eh? to do what?
  • like. a thing in my systray that popped up when discussions were formed/stuff was posted. Like msn does.
  • ahh, I don't use MSN instead I run trillian, but to each their own.
  • but it does the same thing, doesnt it?
  • yeah, but I disable all those silly features.
  • adium all the way. I have disabled all those silly warnings also.

there's a systray in osx? or is that just the icons in the upper right corner? or are you talking about windows? i'm so confused.
  • Someones confused. There is no systray in OSX. There's the menubar or dashboard. No systray lol. Anyway, since Vanilla has an atom feed, I'm sure you could easily create a dedicated widget that would feed off Vanilla's atom to keep you updated on topics. If I had my Powerbook still I'd try to mod an existing widget.
  • i know theres no systray on macs, they have dashboards with dashboards widgets. Until i get my free mac (so never) i use an XP pc with a systray which i'd like a 'widget' on. But i dunno how to do that which is why i asked here.
  • okay okay okay. that's what i figured you meant.

years ago, i made some rinky-dink visual basic programs that put icons in the systray. but i haven't touched my pc in months. so i'm pretty much no help in that area.
  • go learn! Or buy me a mac...
  • There's 2 ways you can go about doing this mini: The hard way, or the easier way. The hard way involves learning some C#/C++ and crafting your own systray based application. The easier way would be to forego the system specific programming and grab yourself Konfabulator and build your own little javascripted systray popup application. :D
  • I'd go the Konfab route. A little javascript and the Vanilla Atom feed would work.
  • samurize (.com) is a little easier than previously mentioned methods. you can set it up to get atom/rss quite easily, in addition to other system info.
  • samurize however is only for windows :|

I've been thinking I might do a c# systray widget - but it would only be for windows and would require the .net framework be installed.
  • that would be fun.
  • .net framework = EVIL, not a fan.
  • lech, mini is going to use an xp pc until he gets a free mac. when most of the thrill of a mac is telling people you can afford one bwaha.
  • i can afford one, i just dont wish to pay for one.
