Different whispering

edited August 2005 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hi, I am new in town. I would like to propose whispering comments outside the forum (by e mail) and a specific "send to moderator" to propose elimination of undesirable messages Congratulations for your job

Comments

  • Whispering comments outside the forum sounds identical to private messages: the system that Whispers are meant to replace.
  • Whispers should be contained within the forum. Shhhh.. we're supposed to whisper personal comments to other users, not bother them with private messages.

  • I agree but obviously techy would rather some sort of email facility which is probably more useful in some cases. Have you added it to the feature request list on the wiki, techy?
  • Here's a question , can you whisper to more than one person at once, I understand that this might be a contradiction in terms but I think it would be useful.
  • @markwilkin: at the moment, you can only whisper to one person at a time.
  • Whispering to multiple people would be a nice feature. I haven't found the reason to yet.. but I'm sure I'll run into the situation where I'll want it later down the road. Maybe something like "username" + "username" should be how it works.

  • yeah, due to the way whispers work at the moment there are a number of reasons why its not possible (or would be very difficult) to do that. However something along the lines of my 'gossip' extension (search: anti whisper) would probably enjoy having the capabilities of defined multi user whispers.
  • while I think whispering to multiple users is a great idea, I DON'T think the + operator should be used. I would prefer to see commas (eg. nathan, lech, mark). This not only reduces key strokes, it also gives the autocomplete script a clearer indication as to when to start looking for a new name.
  • sorry, should have added this. while the addition operator COULD be used in the same way, I think the chances of a + being used in a username (not sure if vanilla allows these characters. It should) are MUCH higher than a comma is.
