Purpose of the EmailVerificationKey field (in Table LUM_User)

edited December 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
I was wondering if anyone knows the purpose of the EmailVerificationKey field (in Table LUM_User)? Is it a legacy field? Or intended for future use? I have searched the code, and cannot find where it is used. And in looking at the records in my install, it doesn't appear to be used. I am thinking of using it to store some unique User Info. But I don't want this to come back and bite me later.

  • Isnt it used for password recovery?
  • I didn't think this field was used for password recovery, because I had done a search of all .php files in my local Vanilla 1.1.4 folder, for "EmailVerificationKey", and it returned 0 results. But, I liked your suggestion, Minisweeper. So I created a dummy account; used the password reset request form; clicked on the link to reset the password; and then checked the record for the dummy account. The EmailVerificationKey field, in Table LUM_User, was still empty. I'm thinking it's either legacy, or future use. If it's legacy, it won't hurt me to use this field. But if it is future use, I can see all kinds of pain.
