Help! I'm a newbie and I don't know how to install!

edited January 2008 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
So I'm running Elgg 0.9, and here's how I attempted to install Vanilla: 1) Uploaded everything to the mod folder 2) chmod'd everything to 777 or 755 appropriately 3) ran /mod/vanillaforum/vanilla/setup/installer.php and everything seemed to work fine 4) logged into my site as admin and tried to click on the "forums" link on top and got the following message (between dashes): --------------------------------------------------- A fatal, non-recoverable error has occurred Technical information (for support personel): Error Message The "User" class referenced by "User" does not appear to exist. Affected Elements ObjectFactory.NewObject(); For additional support documentation, visit the Lussumo Documentation website at: lussumo.com/docs --------------------------------------------------- Any advice? I can't seem to find a solution!

  • Try reuploading the vanilla files.
  • tried that. same error :(
  • This is so frustrating. I even created a brand-new subdomain to try and reinstall Elgg and Vanilla, and still the SAME error! Any help?
  • Actually, some more bit of info: After installing, it said "could not find /mod/vanillaforum/vanilla/people.php" - so I looked and found a file called people.php-old I renamed it people.php and then got the above error. Did I do something wrong here? --------------------------------------------------- A fatal, non-recoverable error has occurred Technical information (for support personel): Error Message The "User" class referenced by "User" does not appear to exist. • Where did you get the download from? There shouldnt be any sort of -old files in there.
  • i got it from the elgg plugins section. is there a better place?
  • omg you're the best. I installed from there and it worked! thanks SOOOOO much guys!
  • what is elgg in the first place? and why do they have a nonworking vanilla download?
  • elgg is an open-source social networking site. I was making a simple site for model airplane enthusiasts (all 40 of us, lol) and wanted to put some forums in there. Do you just use Vanilla as stand-alone foums on a regular site/blog?
  • You're just posting on its main instance!
There are plenty of public instances here: http://vanillazilla.adamatlas.org/.
  • Guys Please Help! I had the same problem as jbrief when i tried integrating vanilla forum with elgg using the vanillaforum ta.z file downloaded from elgg. the vanilla folder inside it does not look like the one on getvanilla.com so seeing this discussion i downloaed the getvanilla.com vanilla folder and put it inside the elgg/mod/vanillaforum folder and tried to install and i did not get the error that jbrief was describing but the forums were not integrated! i mean vanilla forum and elgg had different authentications and a user logged into elgg is not by default logged into vanilla forum as well as the communities are not showing as categories in vanilla forum. jbrief, can you help on this?
  • Well I downloaded vanilla from getvanilla, but now I get this new error:

Unknown language code: English in /(MYSITE)/mod/vanillaforum/languages/. Please ask the system administrator to configure this properly.

Unknown language code: None in /(MYSITE)/mod/vanillaforum/languages/. Please ask the system administrator to configure this properly.
  • I think that the elgg guys are in a better position than us for solving issues on their integration.
