I've done some digging around trying to optimize the Vanilla database, and I think I've taken it as far as I can. At this point I think the only way to speed things up is to get someone who is a very highly skilled MySQL Database Administrator.
I know that for a fee you can hire some people at MySQL to come in and show you how to optimize complex queries, but I don't have enough money to do that sort of thing. I'm hoping that someone out there reading this can help (or knows someone who can help).
