Quite a hard thing to do... I recomend finding some Gerbils and knocking up a dynamo arrangement.
  • If by PCs you mean Pieces of Chips and by skanner a sixpack of beer, I don't see any problem here.
  • get a HUGE UPS (un-interuptable power source). They are effectively a large box full of car and truck batteries. They are pricey though.
  • on second thoughts. if you want it for 7 hours, you may need to add a few more units to that order.
  • yeah, both pc's have ups's at the moment but theyre really just to tick them over on a normal power cut or give them time to shutdown gracefully really arent they? Batteries for 7 hours would take a lot. I think a diesel generators gonna be the only option. But people do minimum week hire :(
  • Why are you trying to do this anyway?
  • The electricity people are cutting off our supply so they can trim some trees and want to charge us £800 per building on the grange to move it to an out of hours time. And when there's only 8 of us in this building thats quite an extortionate amount of money. Especially when we can hire a diesel generator to run the building for a week for ~£500. Though thats still too much, and the companies refuse to hire for less than a week :(
  • That's rather stupid really. They shouldn't charge you at all. Unless they're your trees and you asked them to trim them?
  • They shouldnt but they do. Theyre public trees (roadside etc) but while trimming them there is the possibility they might accidentally catch a live wire which is why they want to turn the electricity off. generator down to £260 now..hmm..
  • well... I have been to Vietnam, and they had HUGE ups systems, as their power supply is crap. They can run entire houses off of those things for days. They are SOOO popular over there, there is now a street called (in english) 'UPS Street', where you can get all your ups needs. So, to answer your questions, not just for letting them shut down.
  • why do you need it for 7 hours anyway? do you desperately need it in during this timeframe?
  • thats a shortened normal working day.
  • umm... why aren't you just takin the day off? or heck, work from home if you really have to...
  • take the day off?! work wont do itself you know!
  • Work from home, else complain to the city that if they're cutting your power, that they should compensate by paying for a generator. It's your power supply, they have no right to cut it, do they? If this happened to me, I would file a complaint or some kind of civil suit for lost wages if this is business related.
