Suggestion for this forum

I think it would be really useful if the extension Notifi was installed on the Lussumo Community forum.
It would mean we don't have to keep checking for new posts. It seems to me like it is a fundamental feature of forums, I've used it for over a decade (the feature I mean, not the particular extension of course ;)) on many forums.
Does anyone else want this?

Isn't that what "bookmark discussion" does?
  • I dunno, I thought bookmarking was just like making it a personal sticky, it's always at the top of the discussions page. I would rather not have the discussions page full of bookmarked discussions though, and it would be useful to have the option to subscribe to categories, not just individual posts
  • Rss/Atom feeds would probably do what you are looking for--only downside is you have to use a feed reader to keep an eye on them (one is included in IE 7 IIRC).
  • they are near the bottom of the list on the left <-----------------

I use Feedreader with RSS2 feeds to keep track of this forum. It works really well and is free. I have tried this on my own Vannila forum, but cannot make it work. (I have removed an innacurate comment about an earlier version of Notifi from this post - see comment by SubJunk below that refers)
  • Tony, please go to the Notifi thread and tell me what exactly is going wrong with Notifi. I can't fix the bug if I don't know about it :)

Thanks WallPhone, I use RSS feeds for things like news, tracking software updates, webcomics, things like that.
However I much prefer to be notified only once until I visit the forum (which is what Notifi does by default) as opposed to seeing a new feed update for every post.
I would wager that the majority of users would also rather email notifications than RSS feeds, based on the amount of downloads Notify/Notifi have had compared to "RSS2 Feed".
  • Bookmarking allows you to see discussions through your own filter. It doesn't mail anything. I agree - the Notifi plugin is awesome! (Thanks SubJunk!)

    > Tony, please go to the Notifi thread and tell me what exactly is going wrong with Notifi. I can't fix the bug if I don't know about it :) Sorry SubJunk, I have edited the post above. It referred to a version before the huge amount of work you have done recently and it was probably also innacurate, because I had not realised that you do not recieve notification of your own posts! I was testing it myself. I installed Notifi 1.7.3 this morning and it is really excellent. See also my comment onthe Notifi thread.
  • Ah of course, great. I'm glad it's working now :)
I think 1.7.3 is a stable release, in fact it is probably the most stable release of Notifi and Notify ever, and possibly the fastest even with the new features, especially with Low-Cal Vanilla installed.
