Looking to put a 'hot topic' indicator next to admin selected posts?

Anyone know how I can highlight posts that are essentially 'the editors choice' type topics to draw more attention to them VS. just sitting in the pool of discussions.

    I know there is a hot topics add-on, but I'm looking for something that can be done to denote that one thread vs. another is a preferred read?

    move it to a different category, set that category's icon to be a "hot thread" image?
