Exclude categories from Discussions view

Is it possible to exclude a category from the Discussions view? Someting like "Block category" but global.
(Global Preference Setting is not an answer.)

    I've been looking for the same thing, but I've been told that it can't be done without doing some hardcoding to the forum software.

    Maybe it isn't really that hard if the Blog extension can do it (assuming by the screenshot).
