In Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8), please open http://www.sharminnajreen.com/foRuM/categories.php. Now please click Discussion tab. You will see that the page does not show the discussion subject but shows only All Discussion header and the number of discussion. If you Refresh the page by F5, you can see the discussion subjects, the way it happens normally in Mozilla. Please use user id: user and password as 123 to log in. ( remember to first open http://www.sharminnajreen.com/foRuM/categories.php and then to click Discussion tab to see the problem. Please open http://www.sharminnajreen.com/forumErr.bmp where I am giving a screen shot. In Mozilla and in Opera this problem is not visible. Only in IE, this problem happens. I am not seeing this problem in this forum: http://lussumo.com/community/post/ and this forum works same under any browser: IE, Mozilla, or Opera I have installed vanilla 1.1.5a, the latest one; then why above mentioned problem happens in IE. Please give solution or suggestion.Please note that to see this error in IE 8, you need to log in as a member. Please use the following user id: user and password: 123 that I have created for you.

  • I think Internet Explorer 8 is only in the 2nd beta stage, so it is possible the bug is with the browser and not the website itself. If you make a change now to suit IE8 it may be made redundant when the next version (either beta 3 or RC1) is released.
    I remember the big panic some people got into when Safari for Windows open beta was released and many websites broke, so people changed the websites, then the full release came out and they are broken again because the bugs were in Safari and not the site code.

    Until Vanilla is fully tested on IE8, we should probably target IE7 mode in IE8:
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" /> or header('X-UA-Compatible: "IE=7"');
  • Thank you for the advice and for participating in the discussion. :) This open source thing is great. It allows me to study real industry style software. My experience with PHP is basic textbook.

    I have fixed bad rendering problems in IE8 (not in FX) by returning some extensions (that I had translated in French and UTF-8) to original English. I will investigate and isolate the reason.
