Here is how to add a great little chat application for your left panel that can be customized for any colour scheme:
Go to ShoutMix.com
Sign up and create a shoutbox of your choice (size, colour, etc.)
Install the Nuggets extension
Learn how to use the nuggets extension (pretty straight forward)
Copy the code that shoutmix gives you and post it "inside panel" in the nuggets extension.
