Any advice out there on how to optimize things - server load is over 20 - vanilla is the most used script and is probably contributing to the issue. Right now my board has 719,306 comments, 33,120 discussions, 8,848 users. User discussion watch has 934,081 rows. Looks like I have the following extensions in place: - Account Pictures 1.1 Maurice Krijtenberg - Add Comments 1.2 Mark O'Sullivan - Attachments 2.1 Maurice (Jazzman) Krijtenberg - Auto Close 1.2 Timothy Walters Kleinert - Better BB Code 1.0 Joel Bernstein - Category Jumper 1.0 Mark O'Sullivan - Comment Removal 2.1 SirNotAppearingOnThisForum - Comments Permalinks 1.0 Remi Cieplicki - Discussion Filters 2.0 Mark O'Sullivan - Extended Text Formatter 1.2 Mark O'Sullivan - Forced Category 1.0 WallPhone - GuestSignIn 1.3 WallPhone - Html Formatter 2.2 SirNotAppearingOnThisForum - Inline Images 1.3 Maurice (Jazzman) Krijtenberg - Markdown 1.1.2 Michel Fortin (PHP Version), John Gruber (Original Markdown) - New Applicants 1.3 Mark O'Sullivan - Optimize Tables 0.4 markezz - Page Management 2.3.1 SirNotAppearingOnThisForum - Panel Categories 0.3 ithcy - Participated Threads 1.3 SirNot - Quotations 1.6 Joel Bernstein - RSS2 Feed 1.0.2 Mark O'Sullivan - Report Post 1.1 Gerrard Cowburn - Spell Checker 1.2 ithcy - Transmogrifier 1.2 Joel Bernstein, SirNot and [-Stash-] - Vanillacons 1.3 Maurice Krijtenberg - Whisper Notification 0.1 a_magical_me

any ideas? It would be nice if the closed posts could migrate into a separate table.

Have you tried to, on maintenance hours, disabling extensions one by one to see if you can find the culprit, if any?
I would blame spell checker as it seems to me as being the most "challenging" one...

Thanks, I took that off for now to see if it makes a difference. I'm looking into the cache extension also.
