I need to connect to an existing vanilla database

I've created a database and have a few entries in it, I don't want to lose them. I've installed a new vanilla forum in another directory and would like to access the existing database, is there a simple way to link them together? Thanks in advance

    If the another directory is on same server than one you had database in, just edit new forum configuration to link to the old database. Or export & import data to the new one.

    Which page would that be? I tried to manually edit "appg/settings.php" that didn't end well. but nothing was ruined, didn't work tho.
