IMG, video, bold buttons

I frequent a site called Whitechapel (www.freakangels.com/whitechapel) and they have some nifty buttons for users to use. For example, to post an image you just hit the img button, enter the url, and the application finishes the tage for you. Is this an addon or something the owners custom built?

Thanks Matt. Quicktags seems to be what I need, but I can't get it to display even with HTML Formatter 2.4 installed.

Is quicktags broken in the new version of vanilla?

Installed earlier version of vanilla and quicktags works fine.
