Help: Forum Taken Over

edited August 2009 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hello all,

A discussion forum I run (Vanilla-powered, of course) has been taken over by spam bots. I need some advice as to how I can get rid of the existing bots and posts made by them, and how I can prevent such an attack in the future.

The version of Vanilla is 1.1.4. There are no anti-spam extensions currently installed. The only extensions installed are the latest versions of HTML Formatter, Quicktags and Sidepanel plugins.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and help!

What registration method do you use?

I found that the best way to prevent spam on my old V1 installation was to manually approve everyone that applies. Not the most ideal solution, but it worked great for me.

We've got plans to implement some spam control stuff in Vanilla 2.
