Adding Ads to vanilla?

edited October 2005 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
I saw an extension that would add adsense to the left side area and was very happy with it. I was wondering if anyone knew how I could add ads above the top banner, above the footer, after the threads, and after the first comment in a discussion. I am asuming I can just go to a file and paste the code in somewhere. I am integrating this into BlogIntro.com thanks

  • Damn, thats a lot of ads.
  • I think it is litterally a case of adding the code in the correct places in comments.php and index.php.

I'm guessing because I know bugger all about coding.

That does seem like a lot of ads if you ask me. Verging on Tucker Max amount.
  • i wouldnt add anything to the core files - whats not possible with an extension shouldnt be done. Especially if it involves adverts. I think above the banner, footer, and after threads should be possible - i find it unlikely that it'l work after the first comment unless there's something you can add to the css (i believe the first comment has its own bit?)
  • Well I dont want to put all those ads in but I would like to know how when I optimize. I checked out the index.php and I get crazy errors everytime i mess with it. I will look at the comments.php I am use to wordpress and this is pretty different from my eyes.
  • Doesnt google limit the amount of adsense blocks you can display anymore?
  • I would put them either on the sidebar or on top of the page above the whole forum.
  • Yes Google does limit the blocks. You can put three up. As I said I do not plan on putting up a lot of ads but plan on moving them around. Here is a interesting article on forums and ads. http://adsense.blogspot.com/2005/10/six-adsense-optimization-tips-for.html Kosmo: Do you know how to put an ad above the whole forum? When I look in the index file the whole thing is one php thing. If i mess with it the page wont load correctly.
